Instruments of the Orchestra
Meet every family, violin first ✎
Strings
A bow or a finger makes a string vibrate. A hollow wooden body makes the sound bigger.
Woodwind
Air is blown across a hole or through a vibrating reed. Covering holes changes the note.
Brass
Players buzz their lips into a metal mouthpiece. Valves or a slide change the length of the tube.
Percussion
Hit, shake or scrape! Some drums play one exact note, others just make a rhythm.
Keyboard & Harp
Many strings, one for each note, are plucked or struck by hammers.
