πͺ Woodwind family
Flute
π How it makes sound
You blow across a hole, like blowing over a bottle top. Keys open and close holes along the metal tube.
πΌ Range and clef
From middle C up about three octaves. Reads treble clef.
π¨ Its timbre colour
Light, airy and silvery, like birdsong.
Timbre is the "colour" of a sound, the idea from Lesson 0. A violin and a flute can play the same note, but you can still tell them apart!

π‘ Fun fact
Flutes are woodwind even though most are made of metal, because old flutes were wooden.
