πŸͺˆ Woodwind family

Clarinet

πŸ”Š How it makes sound

A single reed on the mouthpiece vibrates against it. It is usually made of dark wood.

🎼 Range and clef

A very wide range, over three octaves. Reads treble clef and is usually a Bβ™ transposing instrument.

🎨 Its timbre colour

Smooth and chocolatey down low, bright and singing up high.

Timbre is the "colour" of a sound, the idea from Lesson 0. A violin and a flute can play the same note, but you can still tell them apart!

🎧 Listen to

Mozart: Clarinet Concerto, slow movement

πŸ’‘ Fun fact

The clarinet plays the cat in "Peter and the Wolf".
