πͺ Woodwind family
Bassoon
π How it makes sound
A double reed on a curved metal tube leads into a long wooden pipe folded in half.
πΌ Range and clef
Low notes, about three octaves. Reads bass clef and tenor clef.
π¨ Its timbre colour
Gruff, woody and often funny, like a grumpy grandpa.
Timbre is the "colour" of a sound, the idea from Lesson 0. A violin and a flute can play the same note, but you can still tell them apart!

Dukas: "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"
π‘ Fun fact
Unfolded, the bassoon's tube would be about 2.5 metres long.
